Back-Up

Don't let it get your back-up!

Some Companies tend to leave back up’s for a long time, hoping all will be OK. We recommend a back up at least every week, if not daily.

Whichever method you choose to back-up your data, the back up CD or tape needs to be taken offsite, just in case there is any damage to your premises such as a fire, flood or a break in.
It is wise to elect 3 people who are authorised to carry out a back up of your system and to ensure you have details of where they are storing the back up tape or CD.  NEVER JUST LEAVE IT IN A CAR!

In Comparison to Tape Drives:

  • All data is held in-situ but is not protected against onsite disasters such as fire, theft, acts of God etc.
  • Backup media such as tape and disks are volatile and can be corrupted.
  • They are labour intensive, someone has to take responsibility for the daily backup.
  • They require maintenance and ongoing management.
  • Onsite hardware devices need regular upgrading and are superseded by new technology.
  • They can be expensive to run, manage, maintain and upgrade when the true costs are taken into account.
  • Restoring from tape or CD can often be time consuming, difficult and unreliable.
  • They rely on people - people are sometimes unreliable!

Don’t put your system at risk! We can come to visit free of charge you and show you how to implement a back up procedure on site or we can show you the option for external back-up.
